With just a week to go before the Fourth of July, organizers of two big Rancho Cordova fireworks shows told the Board of Supervisors on Monday that they were backing down from a plan to launch the fireworks from a site on the American River Parkway.
But organizers and their backers also told the board that they weren't too happy and still believed the parkway site is the safest and best place to shoot off the fireworks.
UCDavis Health
In the meantime, the show will likely go on, but it still faces one more hurdle. The new site, in nearby Hagan Park, which is run by the Cordova Park and Recreation District, still has to be approved by the district's board of directors.
The district's administrator told the supervisors he saw no reason why that wouldn't happen, but added that he couldn't speak for the parks district board of directors. The chair of the parks board, Eric Lund, said after the meeting that the proposed site was still new to him -- and everyone -- and he didn't know how he or the other board members will vote when they meet Wednesday.
